Job Description Senior Production Engineer Wotton under Edge up to £55,000 depending on experience Renishaw’s Encoder Products Division (EPD) designs and supplies cutting-edge position feedback technology to the world’s precision measurement, automation, and manufacturing industries. It is highly likely that something you own contains a part or device that was manufactured with the help of one of Renishaw’s encoder products. EPD is made up of engineers, scientists and technicians all working together to produce market leading products for sale around the world. Working closely with colleagues in our manufacturing division, we develop manufacturing and assembly processes and software to deliver quality products that in turn, perform reliably and repeatedly to sub-micron accuracies for our customers. We are recruiting for a Senior Production Engineer to support the introduction of new assembly lines for new encoder products, whose primary responsibility is to monitor, develop and improve these new processes during pilot manufacture, working with the equipment designers, to enable them ultimately to be transferred to general manufacture. As a Senior Production Engineer, you will take clear ownership of the processes assigned to you, ensuring they consistently deliver high‑quality outputs while identifying and driving improvements across performance, reliability and capability. You will provide technical support for both routine and complex production activities, ensuring that assembly processes, equipment and supporting documentation are well‑controlled, capable and appropriately maintained. Responsibilities You will use product and process knowledge to act as the first line troubleshooter and process authority for day-to-day production issues, acting to maintain product quality and throughput while minimising & controlling risk. You will reduce ongoing COPQ, investigating root causes and creating appropriate work packages with process design engineers to reduce/control identified issues. Day‑to‑day, you will monitor and report on key performance metrics such as First Time Pass Rate, yield, scrap cost and overall process health. You will analyse trends, highlight risks, and communicate emerging issues or improvement opportunities clearly and proactively to the wider team. You will provide design input into new processes to ensure suitability for manufacturing use. You will review process documentation supplied by engineers for process equipment ensuring suitability and completeness. You will act as process training authority, ensuring training delivered always conveys necessary information and practices. You will conduct periodic cell manufacturing cell audits for safety and compliance to Renishaw procedures. You will assist Process Development engineers with the creation of appropriate routes on the Renishaw MRP system for new products. Key requirements Experience with manufacture of precision systems, electro-mechanical systems. Three years experience in a manufacturing support or continuous improvement role. Solid knowledge of statistics and process capability metrics. Thorough understanding of risk management and investigative tools such as PFMEAs, 5 whys, Ishikawa diagrams. An understanding of mechanical tooling and fixture design. Good PC skills and the ability to work with minimal support. Desirable requirements A working knowledge of PUWER and COSHH legislation. Understanding of process validation. Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies. Person specification The successful applicant will have a strong manufacturing background with a hands‑on approach. They will be able to demonstrate success in the support and development of complex, technically challenging processes. They will have a good attention to detail and the determination and tenacity to resolve technical challenges where a solution is not immediately apparent.
