About the role
Students at National Star love making music and many benefit from music therapy to reduce anxiety and stress as well as improving communication and self-expression.

We’re looking for a music therapist to join our Emotional Wellbeing Service working part time (23 hours per week) term time only. This would be spread over a minimum of 3 days – one of these will include Monday.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced and highly regarded team of therapists working at the award-winning National Star College in Ullenwood, giving you the chance to learn from other professionals working in the field.

You will be responsible for a caseload of students who will receive one-to-one music therapy, group delivery and possible vocalisation groups. It goes without saying that you will be dynamic and creative and have a good understanding of some of the issues being faced by young adults with complex physical and learning disabilities.

You will be part of a hugely supportive, growing and dynamic team that has a wide, diverse range of backgrounds including creative arts therapies such as music and drama, talking therapy and clinical psychology and also Positive Behaviour Support.

We expect you to have a MA in music therapy and be registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Being a member of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) would also be desirable. A strong communicator, you will have the ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

It is likely that you will have worked in an education setting and have experience of supporting people with PMLD, ASD and acquired brain injuries. An understanding of Makaton and intensive interaction would also be desirable.
