Job Summary
The CEO needs to be a strategic leader who can inspire and manage teams, drive fundraising and financial sustainability and represent the organisation to stakeholders. You will need to be capable of building relationships, fostering a positive organisational culture and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
You will work with the Chair of the Board of Trustees (Chair) and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to formulate and regularly review the organisation's mission and strategic plan. You will develop deep and trusting relationships with the Community we serve as well as with a wide range of external stakeholders and funders who can support the ideas generated from within the community.
We need an innovative, enthusiastic entrepreneur who is keen to connect with people from all backgrounds and abilities, encouraging and bringing out the best in us all.
At a more operational level you will work with the SLT to develop operational plans and key performance indicators (KPI) to ensure that GL11 can always demonstrate the value it brings to the community and wider stakeholder network.
You will be responsible, with the SLT, to set the values, behaviours and tone for the whole organisation and support the SLT to lead and manage their teams so that the strategic goals you set are reflected throughout the organisation.
You will raise the profile of GL11 Community Hub, to stakeholders, partners and within the community by joining and / or influencing multiple stakeholder bodies, leveraging the work done by GL11 in co-designing and delivering change to create a compelling story for further change. Through your leadership GL11 will continue to grow and be visible whilst meeting the varying needs of our communities. You will ensure that the welcoming and supportive culture of GL11 continues to inspire and that our vision, values and key aims are a living part of all our work. You will work collaboratively with the community to understand how, together, we can begin to effect system change in all our areas of work. You will use a community development approach and deliver through a range of resources including volunteers.
Principal tasks
1. Working with the Board
• Ensure appropriate presentation and reporting to the Board on the progress of the organisation and on all matters relevant to the discharge of its responsibilities
• As agreed with the Chair, develop policy proposals for Board discussion and decision
• Support the Chair in ensuring the continued engagement/involvement of all members of the Board, development of succession plans and approval of applications for Board membership.
• As appropriate, monitor and advise on the composition of the Board of trustees its committees and the process of self-assessment and development
• Ensure an annual calendar of meetings of the Board and its principal sub-committees is in place
2. Leading and managing the organisation:
• Ensure that a long term strategy is in place which can guide the organisation in achieving its objectives
• Enable the organisation to articulate its vision, mission and values; ensure that these are consistently applied across the organisation
• Be responsible to the trustees for the overall financial health of the organisation. Ensure that expenditure is controlled in line with budgets as approved by the Board
• Ensure the organisation discharges its constitutional and legal obligations
• Provide leadership and appropriate levels of support and supervision to the senior leadership team. Keep under review and appraise the work of staff reporting directly to the chief executive
• Ensure that the organisation has the resources (human, material and financial) to operate as effectively as possible
• Establish and maintain an HR system which ensures leadership and maximises the potential of staff and is in keeping with the mission and values of the organisation
3. Fundraising, partnerships and innovation
• Develop and deliver fundraising strategy to support the organisational vision, ensuring adequate reserves are built up in line with policy
• Develop partnerships with key service providers to develop the scope and capacity of the organisation
• Present ideas and pilots coming from the Community in a way that enables them to be funded and rolled out where the value of the idea has been proved
• Stimulate new approaches to community change, challenge the status quo and innovate solutions to help solve community issues
4. Promotion of the organisation:
• Maintain effective networks with all principal supporters and stakeholders
• Seek opportunities to expand and promote the role of the organisation
• Ensure the organisation is presented in an appropriate and professional manner to its stakeholders
