Personal Care Assistant for university student

We are looking for a reliable, friendly and supportive Personal Care Assistant to work with an autistic university student living independently in Cheltenham. The role involves providing practical and emotional support with organisation, daily living, community access and wellbeing to help them thrive at university and develop independence and confidence.

This is an ideal opportunity for a psychology, education, occupational therapy, nursing or social work student, or an experienced support worker interested in supporting a young adult as they transition to independent living.

About the Role

We are seeking a trustworthy, reliable and supportive Personal Assistant to assist an autistic university student living independently in Cheltenham. The role focuses on sustaining independence and organisation, providing emotional support and prompts with eating, drinking and medication, as well as, building confidence in managing university and day-to-day life.

Main Duties

• Provide practical support during periods of stress or anxiety.
• Act as advocate when requested.
• Support with planning, organisation and time and medication management.
• Assist with shopping and household tasks and possibly dog-walking.
• Help manage appointments, schedules and university commitments.
• Support access to community, social and recreational activities.
• Encourage independence, problem-solving and life skills development.

Essential Qualities

• Patient, dependable and organised.
• Happy to be around student’s assistance dog.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support as required.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect.
• Be able to develop strong one-on-one working relationship and be willing to engage in students preferred activities and creative projects.
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, autism.
• Able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
• Eligible to work in the UK.

Further details

You will be directly employed by student’s mother or may be self-employed (with appropriate adjustment in hourly rate).

Pay role will be handled by independent third party pay role company.
