Communications Officer (Maternity Cover)

Communications Officer (Maternity Cover)

Slimbridge

About The Role

Are you passionate about connecting people with nature?

Do you have the skills and creativity to help us promote WWT’s ten incredible wetland centres and build our brand profile with new and diverse audiences?

Our ten wetland centres are the windows into our wetlands world. They offer engaging wetland nature experiences, build people's understanding of wetlands and their incredible superpowers, and promise up-close wetland wildlife encounters. And we’re looking for an experienced Communications Officer to deliver creative multi-channel communications that promote our wetland centres and encourage more people to come and experience them for themselves.

Working closely with our Visitor Marketing team, this role will work across communications disciplines, flexing to support our marketing priorities through media relations and PR, social media, events management and internal communications. This is a really exciting opportunity to make a real difference for nature, to speak up for wetlands and wildlife and inspire new and existing audiences to visit and act for these amazing habitats.

We’re an organisation of action, running multiple conservation projects and networks in the UK and around the world, as well as our own ten wetland visitor sites in the UK. This hands-on role demands flexibility, imagination and a willingness to lead on delivering impactful and dynamic communications. You’ll help us bring wetlands and WWT to more people, through engaging storytelling and creative content, inspire our staff and volunteers and build our profile across on and offline channels.

The role is a full time 12 month fixed term contract, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday based at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gloucestershire.  We support hybrid working, with an expectation for team members to be in Slimbridge at least once a week.

About You

We are seeking someone:

  • Experienced in delivering successful communications plans aimed at a diverse range of public audiences.
  • With a track record of delivering creative communications activity across a range of internal and external channels, including social media, PR, events, and digital content.
  • An intuitive thinker and engaging writer, you’ll be able to seek out and tell stories aimed at raising an organisation’s profile and driving action.
  •   With a creative eye, you'll be comfortable capturing content and turning it into accessible, on-brand communications for social media channels like Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, and for media and PR storytelling.
  • Comfortable building relationships externally and internally, with a range of levels and stakeholders from journalists and partners to senior leaders and volunteers.
  • Experienced in planning and delivering events that support the achievement of organisation objectives.
  • Organised and able to manage competing priorities while remaining calm in a busy working environment.
