Our aim is to be a school where we all flourish, children and adults alike. The Governing Body of Saint John’s CE Primary School is seeking to appoint an evening Cleaner.

The roles and expectations for these posts are outlined in the job description and person specifications, both available on request from the office. Ideally, we would be looking for a candidate that could fulfil both roles but we will consider separate applications.

The cleaning position is for 15 hours a week, Monday – Friday for three hours a day between the hours of 3.15pm and 6.15pm. This job is during term time only but including inset days. There is some flexibility about the exact timings and there might be slightly more hours for the right person.

We also have opportunities for working within the school in a Midday Supervisor role. This can be discussed further at interview.

Job Description – Cleaner Role

To be responsible for cleaning Saint John’s CE Primary School during term time, including inset days

General responsibilities

Comply with the policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security and data protection, reporting all concerns to the designated safeguarding lead
Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance

Specific duties

Ensure school security entry and exit is completed appropriately
Clean, sweep, vacuum and mop of classrooms and other areas within the school each day
Clean all toilets – infants, juniors, staff and the disabled toilet each day
Empty litter and food bins
Other aspects of cleaning (polishing/dusting) on a weekly/monthly basis, as directed by School Business Manager
Occasional use of powered equipment for cleaning furniture or flooring
Report any significant problems, concerns or mishaps to the School Business Manager/Caretaker
Please note that this is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the role. It is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that the cleaner will carry out. The postholder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Head Teacher or School Business Manager.

Experience

Previous experience of cleaning jobs (essential)

Previous experience working in a school (preferred but not essential)

Personal and Professional Qualities

The ability to work co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team

A good level of physical and mental health in order to fulfil the physical responsibilities of the post

Additional skills and interests which would be of benefit to the school

Additional Requirements

A willingness and ability to attend appropriate meetings and training

Good reliability and punctuality

Good health and attendance record – holiday will be taken during designated school holidays
