Job Purpose
The Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in supporting and enhancing children’s learning, both academically and personally, in line with the curriculum and the school’s ethos. Working closely with the class teacher, the role involves supporting children’s development, providing pastoral care, and assisting with administrative duties. The post holder will help create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where all children feel supported and encouraged to achieve their potential.
Relationships
The post holder will report directly to the Headteacher and work under the day-to-day guidance of the class teacher. Strong, professional relationships with colleagues are essential, with a shared commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learning across the school. Positive and respectful communication with pupils, staff, parents, and outside agencies is key to the success of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Pupil Support
1. Support pupils’ educational development under the direction of the Headteacher, class teacher, and SENCo, including assisting with national curriculum delivery.
2. Contribute to pupils' emotional, social, and moral development, providing support and encouragement to promote wellbeing.
3. Assist in implementing and monitoring individual Learning Plans.
4. Provide one-to-one or small group support, ensuring all pupils are able to fully participate in learning activities.
5. Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., speech and occupational therapists) as needed.
6. Help maintain pupil records, including assessments and feedback notes.
7. Support pupils experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them to develop appropriate social skills.
8. Communicate with parents and external agencies under teacher guidance, sharing relevant progress updates.
9. Supervise and support learning during break and lunch times.
10. Contribute to planning learning activities with teachers.
11. Assist in assessing pupil progress, including marking under direction.
12. Prepare, maintain, and organise learning materials and resources to support the classroom environment.
