DJJ Healthcare operates a range of specialist services, and this role sits within our Alternate Provision Centre, a small, welcoming setting designed specifically for children and young people with SEN who are not currently accessing full-time education.
Our centre, located a short distance from Gloucester, offers a comfortable and attractive working environment in a modern business space, thoughtfully decorated for SEN learning and including a sensory room to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.

Role Purpose:
The SEN Education Manager is responsible for leading and delivering education for children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who are unable to attend mainstream or specialist school placements.
The role combines direct teaching, EHCP oversight, and team leadership, ensuring pupils receive high-quality, personalised education that supports progress, regulation, and long-term outcomes.
Pupils supported may range in age from approximately 8 to 25 years old, depending on individual need and placement.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Pupil Support
- Deliver targeted teaching to a small number of pupils, adapting learning to individual needs.
- Plan, deliver, and assess bespoke education programmes aligned to EHCP outcomes.
- Promote engagement, emotional regulation, independence, and positive learning behaviours.
- Work flexibly across centre-based, community, and one-to-one settings.
EHCP Delivery & Oversight:
- Lead on the delivery and monitoring of EHCP outcomes and transition outcomes.
- Write, review, and update educational reports and documentation.
- Attend and contribute to EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings.
- Ensure provision is compliant with statutory requirements and agreed timescales.
- Liaise with Directors to finalise assessments, provision plans, and pricing.
Team Leadership (TAs & HCAs):
- Lead, support, and guide Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) involved in education delivery.
- Model effective teaching practice, regulation strategies, and positive behaviour support.
- Provide mentoring, feedback, and professional guidance.
- Support recruitment and induction as the provision grows.
Quality Assurance & Monitoring:
- Monitor the quality and consistency of education delivery.
- Carry out observations, reviews, and spot checks.
- Track pupil progress and adapt provision as required.
- Work collaboratively with external professionals to support pupil outcomes.
Pre-Contract & Referral Responsibilities:
- Support the management of educational input for new EHCP referrals.
- Complete initial reviews and assessments within agreed timescales.
- Confirm staffing and resource capacity with internal teams.
- Produce clear documentation to support decision-making.
What We Are Looking For:
- A qualified teacher (QTS) with substantial experience working with children and young people with SEN and complex needs.
- Experience working with children and young people who are unable to access school.
- Experience delivering education in alternative provision, PRU, or special settings is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of EHCP processes and outcome-led provision.
- Experience working alongside and leading TA’s or HCA’s.
- Calm, flexible and confident in non-traditional education settings.
- Strong communication skills and professional judgement.
- SENCo experience is desirable but not essential.
Salary, Hours & Working Pattern
- Salary: £34,000–£36,000 per annum, pro rata, dependent on experience
- Core working hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required for EHCP reviews, meetings, and service needs
- Working pattern: Term-time plus 5 additional agreed training, planning, and assessment days per year (approximately 41 weeks in total)
- Holiday entitlement: The non-working weeks include statutory holiday entitlement, pro-rated for the agreed working pattern
The role includes responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing learning, including appropriate marking and written feedback. Teachers are expected to manage this work within the agreed working hours and additional planned days, and should not be required to complete it outside these periods.
