We are seeking an outstanding and inspirational leader to take on the role of Head of Science at Tewkesbury Academy, driving excellence in teaching, curriculum and student outcomes across the department. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner to lead a dedicated team, shape an ambitious and engaging Science curriculum, and ensure all students achieve and exceed their potential.
As Head of Science, you will play a pivotal role in championing the success and life chances of every student, using data-informed strategies, high-quality teaching and targeted intervention to secure strong progress for all groups of learners. About you:
You will be:
a qualified teacher (QTS) with a strong degree in Science or a related discipline, with successful experience teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4.
an exceptional classroom practitioner, able to consistently deliver high-quality, engaging lessons that secure strong progress and outcomes over time.
an aspiring or experienced middle leader, with the ability to lead, inspire and develop a team, motivating colleagues to deliver excellent teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
confident in using assessment and progress data to identify priorities, drive improvement and implement effective interventions, particularly for disadvantaged students, SEND learners and high attainers.
skilled in curriculum leadership, with a strong understanding of effective Science pedagogy, practical work and current developments in Science education.
an excellent communicator who can build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community, contributing to collaboration across the school and trust.
committed to fostering high expectations of behaviour, achievement and attitudes to learning, ensuring a safe, purposeful and inclusive learning environment.
passionate about professional development, both in refining your own leadership and teaching practice and in coaching and supporting others to improve.
dedicated to providing enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom, encouraging curiosity, investigation and a love of Science through practical learning and real-world application.
