About the Role
Ohbot is a Gloucestershire based company that designs and manufactures educational technology (robots and programming software) that is used by schools and organisations around the world.
We are looking for a practical, curious and capable Creative Technologist to join our small team. This role combines hands-on making and assembly with operational and customer-facing administration.
The role is based at our workshop and manufacturing space in Chalford, Gloucestershire.
The role has two connected parts. One focuses on assembling and testing robotic products and contributing to product development, while the other supports the day-to-day running of the business through communication, organisation, and helping customers successfully use our products.
This role suits someone who enjoys making things, solving practical problems, and communicating clearly with others. You should feel comfortable moving between workshop tasks, computers, and communication with customers and colleagues.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about building new things and helping to change the way the world works, even in small ways.
This role may suit someone with experience as a robotics technician, electronics technician, prototype technician, or maker.
Part 1: Robots, Assembly & Making
- Assembly and Production
- Assemble and test robotic, mechanical, and electronic products
- Use hand tools and workshop equipment safely, accurately, and with care
- Use our software to run test programs
- Follow assembly processes while maintaining high build quality
- Identify and resolve small issues during assembly or testing
- Support product testing and quality control
- Prototyping
- Help prototype and experiment with new product ideas
- Assist in developing tools, jigs, or processes that improve production
Part 2: Administration, Communication & Customer Support
- Provide a first point of contact for enquiries
- Help manage orders, packing, and shipment of products
- Ensure products are packed, shipped, and delivered accurately and on time
- Help ensure customers successfully set up and use our products through onboarding and support
- Manage email and other communication channels with customers
- Provide clear guidance and technical support
- Help create simple onboarding materials and tutorials
- Support customers in understanding how to use and get the most from our products
Skills & Qualities
We are looking for someone who:
- Has excellent dexterity and close attention to detail
- Is comfortable working with tools, small parts, and technical equipment
- Enjoys making, building, and fixing things
- Can demonstrate things they have made or built
- Communicates clearly using speech, email, instant messaging, writing, photographs, and video
- Is organised and able to manage multiple practical tasks
- Enjoys learning new tools, techniques, and technologies
- Is enthusiastic about creating new things and helping others use them
- Has some experience with technical design or development (for example PCB design, product design, programming, or electronics prototyping)
Experience
Formal qualifications are less important than ability, curiosity, and attitude.
Useful experience might include:
- Electronics, robotics, or mechanical assembly
- Workshop or maker-space projects
- Software control of physical devices
- Product prototyping or small-scale manufacturing
- Customer support or operational administration
- Technical documentation or instructional writing
- Photography, video, or visual communication
