Stroud High School is an outstanding girls’ grammar school (Ofsted 2023) with a clear and ambitious vision: to be a truly 21st-century grammar school where exceptional learning is the norm. Central to this ambition is our commitment to embedding digital technology throughout the educational experience, ensuring our students are fully prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
We recognise the essential role that technology and digital devices play in modern life and work. Education must evolve alongside these changes, and we believe that preparing students for today’s world requires technology to sit at the heart of their learning. Our digital strategy is woven through every aspect of school life, and the expertise of our network team is fundamental to delivering this vision.
A key element of our strategy is our transition to a 1-to-1 device-per-student model. This began in September 2024 with the introduction of a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme for Year 12, requiring each student to use a 2-in-1 touchscreen device for their learning. In September 2025, Year 8 became the first KS3 cohort to join the provision using school-managed 2-in-1 laptops. From September 2026, our next Year 8 cohort will join the programme, meaning Years 8, 9, 12 and 13 will all be working within a device-per-student environment.
We are now seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Senior IT Technician to play a central role in the continued implementation of this initiative. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, embraces innovation, and is motivated by the challenge of creating a seamless digital experience for both students and staff.
Students within the programme use Windows 2-in-1 laptops and Microsoft OneNote to receive and complete classwork, enabling more personalised learning and equipping them with the digital fluency needed for the future. Our successful sixth form BYOD rollout has paved the way for this expansion into KS3, and we are excited about the opportunities this transformation brings to teaching and learning.
The Senior IT Technician will support the Network Manager in planning, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure and device-per-student provision. This pivotal role requires strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a genuine passion for supporting education. Your knowledge, initiative, time-management skills, and ability to build positive working relationships will make you a key point of contact for IT across the school.
The successful candidate will:
• Have up-to-date understanding of IT/ICT Systems, Infrastructure, Networking, Software and emerging technologies.
• Have proven experience maintaining IT/ICT systems and services, supporting teams within an education setting or similar environment.
• Knowledge of data protection legislation and best practices in information security.
The role also requires flexibility, including occasional work outside normal hours to support essential maintenance, upgrades, or unexpected system issues.
Closing date for applications: Monday 18 May 3.00pm with interviews taking place Friday 22 May.
All applications are subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 6 months.
