About this Role
Head of Faculty - Science
Cirencester Deer Park School, part of the Corinium Education Trust is looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Head of Faculty, Science.
We are seeking an inspirational, dedicated and ambitious individual to provide strategic and ambitious leadership within our school. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a department to deliver a high-quality, inclusive and ambitious curriculum, supporting students across key stages 3 and 4 and designed to meet the needs of all learners.
The Team
The staff are a team of nine committed teachers with specialisms and experience across the sciences, and beyond into industry. They share a strong shared belief in practical and investigative work, the Science teaching staff are well supported by a team of Science Technicians. We have worked hard with our pupils to return Outstanding Science GCSE results for more than a decade.
The Curriculum
Our students enjoy success in Key Stage four Science and through the AQA GCSE Combined and Separate Sciences. At Key Stage three, the full three years our Schemes of Learning have been enhanced by our own practicals and demonstrations, to make our pupils’ lessons more varied, relevant and accessible. We believe the curriculum should evoke a sense of ‘awe and wonder’ in Science and the World around us and promote independent thinking that allows pupils to consider themselves as part of something larger – within the UK and the wider world. Students in Science study a ‘spiral curriculum’ in which key concepts are revisited and built upon.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be a qualified teacher (QTS) with a degree in Science or a closely related field and you will bring strong leadership experience within secondary education. You will have a proven track record of delivering outstanding Science teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, securing excellent outcomes at GCSE, driving curriculum development, supporting diverse learners and improving attainment through innovative pedagogy and strategic initiatives.
You will inspire both students and staff, champion high-quality teaching and learning and foster an inclusive, safe and high-performing departmental culture. Strong organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining the highest standards.
As part of our team, the successful candidate will lead by example — recognising the opportunity in every interaction to make a difference, and inspiring others to bring out the best in every student. Together, we foster a culture of ambition, trust, kindness, determination, and high expectations for all, creating an environment where every young person can dream big, work hard, and achieve their fullest potential.
