Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for an opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management of projects within a specialist construction environment?
We are recruiting on behalf of an established contractor delivering technically demanding projects across the UK, including work within highly regulated and secure environments. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing commercial team, working closely with operational colleagues and clients to ensure projects are delivered commercially and contractually successfully.
The preferred base for this position is Bristol, although applications from candidates based in or around Portsmouth will also be considered.
The role will involve occasional travel to project locations, with the current requirement being approximately two visits per month to Portsmouth, typically involving two days on site.
The Role
Working closely with Project Managers and senior management, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of projects from inception through to final account.
Key responsibilities will include:

-
Preparing, pricing and negotiating variations and change control.
-
Managing subcontract procurement, including tender enquiries, PQQs and tender analysis.
-
Preparing, negotiating and administering subcontract agreements.
-
Measuring and valuing subcontract works, including interim valuations and final accounts.
-
Managing client applications for payment and agreeing final accounts.
-
Producing monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts and financial updates.
-
Monitoring project performance, identifying commercial risks and maximising opportunities.
-
Working closely with Project Managers and operational teams to maintain commercial control.
-
Supporting effective contract administration and dispute avoidance.
-
Maintaining accurate commercial records and ensuring compliance with internal procedures.
-
Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
About You

Ideally, you'll have:
-
At least three years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within construction.

-
A good working knowledge of NEC3, NEC4 and JCT contracts.
-
Experience managing subcontractors, valuations, variations and final accounts.
-
Strong commercial awareness, negotiation and financial management skills.
-
The ability to produce clear cost reports and financial forecasts.
-
Good IT skills and confidence using commercial management systems.
-
Strong organisation, communication and problem-solving abilities.
-
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project locations.
Due to the nature of some projects, successful applicants will also need to meet BPSS vetting requirements and pass relevant drug and alcohol testing.
