SEND Teaching Assistant job summary

SEND Teaching Assistant- Level 3 to start as soon as possible

Fixed term appointment until 31st August 2026, with the possibility of being made permanent

32.5 hours per week, Term Time Only (plus INSETS)

Newman 5 - NJC Pay Scale 8-11, experience dependant

Job requirements:

The principal and governors are looking for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who is has a wealth of SEND experience but particularly working with children with communication and interaction as a primary area of need.

We are looking for an individual who has specialist skills/training/experience to support pupils in curricular and/or learning activities, taking into account Education, Health and Care Plans and/or other support plans, supporting children both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups for intervention. The successful applicant will be an adaptable, flexible and resourceful individual who puts the children at the centre of everything they do.

The successful candidate will:

  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs at C grade or above, including English and Maths.
  • Experience working as a level 3 Teaching Assistant or similar role.
  • Working towards the NOS in Supporting Teaching & Learning level 3 or equivalent.
  • NVQ 3 in Supporting Teaching & Learning.
  • Have experience of delivering and recording interventions to small groups and individuals
  • Inspire and engage children creatively in the learning process.
  • Have a high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults.
  • Be committed to our school and maintaining effective relationships within our school community.
  • Ability to be empathetic and understanding to the needs of learners; the ability to form positive relationships to enable strong inclusion and support of our children.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and prioritising the needs of our pupils.

This is an exciting opportunity, and the successful candidate will be required to:

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and the SENDCo and SEN team to plan, prepare and deliver support to individuals or small groups of pupils with additional needs.
  • Provide cover for classes.
  • Provide pastoral support to pupils.
