Harewood Infant School is a large, successful infant school located in Tuffley. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, nurturing and committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our happy, dedicated team.
This post is linked to a Year 1 child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and is therefore fixed term for the duration of the child’s attendance at our school. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child’s communication, social interaction, emotional development, independence and access to learning. The post is currently being filled on a supply basis, but we are now in a position to be able to offer a short-term contract for somebody to work with the child for the remainder of their time at our school.
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience of supporting children with additional needs.
• Can build warm, trusting and secure relationships with young children.
• Has patience, empathy and a calm, nurturing approach.
• Can adapt learning activities to motivate and engage children through their interests.
• Is able to work closely with teachers, parents and external professionals to implement EHCP provision.
• Is proactive, flexible and committed to ensuring every child achieves their potential.
• Works effectively as part of a team and contributes positively to the wider life of the school.
We can offer you:
• A warm, welcoming and supportive working environment.
• Friendly and collaborative colleagues.
• Opportunities for professional development and SEND-focused training.
• Support from experienced leaders and external professionals.
• Enthusiastic children who enjoy learning and demonstrate positive behaviour.
Application deadline: Friday 13th November
Interview date: Friday 27th November 2026
Please refer to the school's safeguarding policy which can be found on the school website. It is a condition of employment that the employee should not have been convicted of a criminal offence against children, nor have been dismissed, or resigned from, a previous employer for misconduct of a similar nature. Having a criminal record is not necessarily a bar to employment; it would depend on the nature, circumstances and background to the offence.
As part of our due diligence within safer recruitment, school will be carrying out online searches to help identify any incidents or issues which may need to be explored at interview. These searches will include, but will not be limited to the main social networking sites, including Instagram and Facebook.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
