Are you experienced in youth work or supporting young people with complex needs? Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can provide consistent, 1:1 support and make a real impact?

We are working in partnership with a range of Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), alternative provisions, and SEND schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire to recruit resilient, committed, and compassionate 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistants for the new academic year starting September 2026.

These settings support pupils aged with a range of additional needs and challenging behaviours. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for individuals who are calm under pressure, consistent in their approach, and passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.

About the Role

As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with an individual pupil, providing tailored support to help them engage with learning and regulate their emotions.

You will support pupils with:

  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
  • EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties)
  • ADHD / ADD
  • Complex and challenging behaviours, including escalation
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour effectively
  • Support learning, emotional regulation, and personalised programmes
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship through consistency
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and safe environment
Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour
  • Experience in PRUs, SEND settings, youth work, or alternative provision
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal English)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • A full 5-year employment history with any gaps explained
  • Two years of references (including education or care-based)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
