Special needs teaching assistant
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team supporting a range of schools across South Gloucestershire & surrounding areas. This role involves working with children and young people with diverse special educational needs, including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, social/emotional challenges, and learning difficulties. You will help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive.
As placements may vary, you must be willing and able to travel between different schools as required.Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one or small-group support to pupils with SEN in both mainstream and specialist settings.
- Assist in implementing personalised learning plans, behaviour strategies, and intervention programmes.
- Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs.
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and communication development.
- Maintain accurate records of progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents where appropriate.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils at all times.
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN (school-based experience desirable).
- A positive, patient, and proactive approach to supporting learning.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to different school environments and work flexibly.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to varying school locations).
- An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
Desirable
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or SEN-specific training.
- Experience using alternative communication methods (PECS, Makaton, visual supports).
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

Salary: £104 to £108 Daily +
