Plant Tutor/Construction Plant Instructor

Reports To: Head of Trades and Head of Education
Job Purpose:
To deliver high-quality teaching, training and assessment in construction plant operations, enabling learners to develop the technical skills, industry knowledge and safe working practices required to achieve relevant qualifications and operate plant machinery competently within the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver apprenticeships and training courses for construction plant operators in line with awarding body standards including NPORS and CPCS
- Provide practical and theoretical instruction on plant machinery, including:
* Excavator
* Telehandler
* Dumper
* Roller
- Prepare lesson plans, training materials, and practical exercises
- Assess learner competence and provide clear feedback
- Conduct pre-course assessments and identify learner development needs
- Maintain accurate training and assessment records
- Ensure all training activities comply with current health and safety legislation
- Carry out daily machine inspections and ensure training equipment is maintained to a safe standard
- Monitor learner progress and provide additional support where necessary
- Stay up to date with industry developments, plant technology, and training standards.
- Promote safe working practices at all times
Essential Requirements:
- Extensive practical experience operating construction plant machinery
- CPCS Competent Operator Card, NPORS Operator Card, or equivalent industry certification
- Strong knowledge of current construction site health and safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to deliver both classroom and practical training
Desirable Requirements
- Teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or equivalent)
- CPCS Tester, NPORS Instructor/Trainer, or Assessor qualification
- Construction industry experience within training or supervisory roles
- First Aid qualification
- Experience delivering CITB-accredited courses

Working Conditions:
- Based at a construction plant training centre and outdoor training areas
- Regular use of heavy plant and machinery
- Some travel to customer sites required
