Principal / Associate Transport Planner - Bristol

I'm working with a growing, independent transport planning consultancy that is looking to appoint a Principal or Associate Transport Planner to play a key role in the continued growth of its Bristol office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced development planning professional looking to take on a senior position within a close-knit consultancy that has an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality advice across residential, mixed-use, commercial, education, healthcare and regeneration projects throughout the South West and across the UK.

The role offers genuine influence within the business, combining technical leadership, client development and project delivery, with a clear opportunity to help shape the future growth of the Bristol office.

The Opportunity

You'll lead the delivery of development planning projects from initial feasibility through to planning approval, working closely with developers, architects, planning consultants and local authorities.

Alongside project leadership, you'll mentor junior members of the team, strengthen existing client relationships and play an active role in winning new work as the business continues to expand.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the preparation and technical review of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals and wider development planning reports.

  • Managing junction capacity assessments using Junctions 10 (ARCADY/PICADY) together with trip generation and forecasting using TRICS and TEMPro.

  • Taking ownership of projects from initial instruction through to planning approval, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and commercial performance.

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams throughout project delivery.

  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring and quality assurance across the transport planning team.

  • Supporting business development activities, preparing fee proposals and helping secure new opportunities across the South West.

  • Contributing to the continued growth and strategic direction of the Bristol office.

What We're Looking For

  • Significant consultancy experience within development planning transport planning.

  • Strong technical knowledge of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and planning policy.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Junctions 10 (ARCADY/PICADY), TRICS and TEMPro.

  • Proven experience leading projects, managing client relationships and delivering work to a high technical standard.

  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities, develop client relationships and contribute to business growth.

  • Previous experience mentoring or managing junior transport planners.

Why Apply?

  • Join a growing independent consultancy with an excellent reputation in development planning.

  • Take on a genuine leadership role with significant influence over projects, clients and the future direction of the Bristol office.

  • Work on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use, education and regeneration developments.

  • Enjoy clear long-term progression within a business that values technical excellence and client relationships.

  • Competitive salary, excellent benefits and ongoing professional development within a collaborative and supportive team.
