Volunteer Appeal Panel Members
Our well regarded and popular school is seeking Appeal Panel members to work in support of the school admissions appeal process. The Appeal Panel is made up of the Chair (already in place), along with 2 independent volunteers on each panel. Relevant training is provided. Appeals are held throughout the year but mainly fall during May to July.
The role of the panel is to consider the case put forward by the parent on appeal and the admission authority in order to reach an independent conclusion as to whether the school should admit the child. The Appeal Panel Members are supported by an Appeal’s Clerk who will sort all of the administrative arrangements and assist the Appeal Panel.
If you are looking for a varied, interesting and flexible voluntary work which supports families and school, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to complete an important aspect of educational work which has to be carried out in line with legislation and with respect for all parties involved.
We are looking for a candidate able to demonstrate:
• Either educational experience or educational conditions or parental educational experience (i.e. the parent of a pupil in a different school)
• A high level of discretion, confidentiality and impartiality
• Excellent communication skills, listening and verbal
• A professional approach with confident reasoning and decision-making skills
• A well organised approach
• Sensitivity and empathy
