This is a rare and exciting opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role at the heart of GL11, shaping the future of a values-driven, community-focused charity. As Chair, you will influence long-term strategy, champion strong governance, and work in close partnership with the CEO and Board to ensure GL11 continues to thrive and deliver real impact for its community.

Board Leadership

  • Guide the Board in setting strategy, reviewing long-term aims, and monitoring service delivery, whilst ensuring adherence and compliance around GL11’s policies and procedures
  • Chair Board and Finance Committee meetings in alignment with the charity's values
  • Liaise with the Treasurer to ensure full and timely financial transparency and information disclosure to the Board and financial resilience.
  • Support and develop trustees through mentoring, training, and undertake annual Board reviews including its structure and skills mix.
  • Promote a reflective, collaborative Board–CEO relationship.

CEO Partnership

  • Lead CEO recruitment, appraisal, and ongoing support and oversight.
  • Plan meeting agendas together
  • Consult with the CEO on strategy, finance, governance, HR, and emerging risks. External & Community Role
  • Act as spokesperson for GL11 at events and meetings
  • Help build relationships with partners, funders, and the local community.
  • Provide final-stage oversight on grievances, conflicts, and external complaints.

Essential Qualities

  • Strong understanding of the Trustee Boards legal and fiduciary duties and commitment to Nolan Principles.
  • Alignment with GL11’s purpose and values; strategic, forward-looking mindset.
  • Independent judgment, creativity, and political impartiality.
  • Excellent communication, discretion, diplomacy, and willingness to challenge constructively.

Time Commitment

  • At least 4 Board meetings and 4 Finance & General Purposes Committee meetings per year.
  • Regular contact with the CEO and visits to the GL11 Community Hub.
