Working pattern: Hybrid role with required centre-based delivery

Required centre hours (non-negotiable):
Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays – 3pm to 8pm

Required qualification: JNC-recognised youth work qualification (Level 3 minimum; Level 6 welcomed).

Salary:
Pay range £17,627 - £19,385. (FTE equivalent £33,141 - £36,447). JNC-recognised salary, levels 17-21.
(Actual salary dependent on recognised youth work qualification level and experience, paid pro rata for 20 hours)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Youth Work Lead to play a key role in delivering and developing our youth provision. This role is ideal for someone confident in youth work practice, comfortable taking responsibility within sessions, and keen to contribute to the wider development of a community youth centre.

This is a hybrid role. Attendance at the youth centre during delivery hours is essential, with flexibility in how remaining hours are worked to support planning, reflection, partnership work and development.

Key responsibilities

With young people

  • Plan and deliver high-quality open-access youth work sessions rooted in informal education.
  • Build strong, consistent and professional relationships with young people.
  • Create inclusive, engaging spaces that promote participation, confidence and personal development.
  • Support young people’s voice, involvement and agency within the youth centre.
  • Uphold safeguarding, welfare and health & safety responsibilities at all times.

With the team

  • Line manage and work collaboratively with a small youth work team.
  • Lead session planning, reflection and good practice within sessions.
  • Contribute positively to a supportive, respectful and values-led team culture.

Centre and community

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Frith Youth Centre and the programme, including making grant applications and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain positive relationships with local partners and the wider youth work network.
  • Supply youth session reports to the management committee, sharing updates on activity, engagement and themes emerging from the youth club.
  • Support funding, development and sustainability work where appropriate.

Person specification
Essential

  • JNC-recognised youth work qualification (Level 3 minimum; Level 6 welcomed).
  • Safeguarding training beyond basic level and a strong understanding of child protection in a youth work context.
  • Strong experience of delivering open-access youth work.
  • Clear understanding of youth work values, ethics and informal education.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
  • Confidence in managing behaviour and challenging situations in line with policy.
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and contribute within a hybrid role.
  • Willingness to work the required centre hours.

Desirable

  • Experience contributing to funding or development work.
  • Experience of partnership or community-based working.
  • DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
