About the Team & Role
Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service is looking to expand their small team of exam invigilators to support their own staff with the invigilation of GCSE examinations in May/June 2026. Invigilation would take place in groups of no more than 6 students as our rooming facilities are extremely small. Our students are extremely anxious about taking their exams so we are looking for people who can strike the right balance with putting our young people at ease whilst adhering to the strict rules of examinations and invigilation. This year we are already working with an unprecedented number of Year 11s and so your support to enable to them to access their exams is going to be vital. If you have time over May/June to offer our service for this work we would love to hear from you. GHES is a very friendly and supportive team and where we host the exams you would always have the support of our staff alongside members of the senior leadership team.
This is what we need you to do:
To conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and GHES’s regulations and instructions.
To have a key role in upholding the integrity and security of the external examination/assessment process.
To facilitate Exam Access Arrangements for candidates as an invigilator/reader/scribe (full training will be provided). Adhering to the strict rules as to what can and cannot be read or scribed, and ensuring rest breaks and extra time are recorded correctly.
Support students on a 1:1 basis during the examination.
To carry out any other reasonable duties and other exams related administrative tasks.
Ensure the right balance of care and support is shown, whilst adhering to the strict rules of examinations, to enable our students to access their examinations whilst they are unwell.
About You
An ideal candidate will:
have effective communication skills and good interpersonal skills
work well as part of a team
be reliable, flexible and readily available during main examination periods
confident and a reassuring presence to candidates in examination rooms
be able to give instructions and manage situations involving different groups of people
have basic IT skills (familiar with use of email, mobile phone messaging etc.)
