Overview

The Great Big Climate Circus is a four year Climate Action programme for Gloucestershire, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. This role will lead Creative Sustainability’s work in the partnership with World Jungle, Cotswold National Landscapes as part of the Cotswolds Conservation Board (CCB), Bromford Flagship Housing Association and The Ernest Cook Trust. The project aims to create a joyful, inclusive climate and nature action movement across Gloucestershire, by empowering young people and communities through fun, creativity, and grassroots leadership:

• More Empowered Young People through activities for youth leadership development, learning and action, supporting young people to participate fully and in their field of interest.
• More Empowered Communities through creative community place-based events, and supporting the development and delivery of community actions in their places
• More Sustainable Partnerships through sharing learning about creative engagement and youth leadership, networking and presenting to regional and national networks.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

Delivery of activities
Booking venues, transport, expertise and practitioners for all activities, resourcing and setting up activities. Ensuring accessibility both pre and during activities.

Youth Leaders Recruitment
Using creative and relational methods to recruit and engage young people - networking with local youth organisations, direct community engagement, building strong professional relationships, providing support to join in, creating online content - for wide reach to recruit and maintain engagement of young people.

Youth Induction, training and team development
Writing mini-briefs for roles for young people, set up induction and training events, team development days and to support young people with what they need to navigate their commitments

Communicating with young people
Reaching out and responding to participants on various channels, setting up regular groups and meetings. Designing and sharing social media posts and inclusive, accessible communications.

Partnership working
Liaising with partners and other groups to plan the inclusion of young people as participants and young leaders at their events and meetings, and keeping abreast of local, regional and national opportunities.

Evaluation
Planning, designing, preparing and resourcing evaluation activities according to our coproduced inclusive evaluation methodologies, supporting young people to share their opinions, ideas and needs

Creative archive
Working with young people and community groups to record their experiences in creative format, and to create an Archive of films, stories, visual, audio and spoken word responses.

Delivery of youth empowerment activities
Support young people to plan, deliver and participate in the full range of youth climate and nature action empowerment activities, to develop their community projects, skills and confidences.

It is essential that you have the skills and experience to
• Work with, and advocate for, young people
• Be confident talking to, and communicating with, young people
• Have confidence and be willing to work with a range of issues and barriers that young people may present
• Be highly organised and systematic
• Make quick decisions on a day-to-day basis
• Work as part of a large team with competing priorities
• Work with creativity to give everyone an opportunity to express themselves
• Have a passion for youth voice and advocacy
• Manage receiving, sifting and using a high volume of information
• Have excellent digital skills including social media
• Hold a full UK driving license and willingness to drive as part of job

It is desirable that you have
• Knowledge and understanding about climate and nature issues
• Personal interest in climate and nature action
• Experience speaking publicly to small groups
• Passion for creative practice - films, story making, sound, etc.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing
