Part Time Receptionist

A vacancy has arisen at the Shelter for a Part Time Receptionist roll. The position is permanent and
the hours are 16 per week on a Thursday and Friday from 8am – 4.30pm with ½ hour lunch break.
Flexibility for holiday and sickness cover would also be helpful.
A full description of the role is below and full training will be given. The role starts with a six month
probationary period and the rate of pay is £12.90 per hour plus other staff benefits including sick pay
and a work place pension.
The role will suit an enthusiastic, hardworking, personable and conscientious individual who has
strong customer service skills. Listening skills and attention to detail plus experience and a proven
track record in dealing with people in a confident, friendly helpful and professional way is a
prerequisite for the job. A full driving licence will be preferred but is not essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Receptionist
Responsible to: Operations Manager
Post Objective: To provide excellent customer care to all visitors by promoting the Animal Shelter in a positive and professional manner, and to provide a telephony and administrative service to our supporters and members of the public.
Main Duties:
- Be the first point of contact for all customers, supporters and members of the public who visit the Shelter or contact us via phone and email. Assisting everyone in a polite, compassionate and professional manner.
- Manage boarding enquiries and bookings in adherence with our Boarding license. Obtaining all critical information regarding behaviour, medical and dietary needs and ensuring vaccinations are up to date.
- Assist our customers and the Animal Care Team with all enquiries relating to our rescue animals including maintaining animal records, filing of paperwork, booking visits and dealing with adoption enquiries.
- Deal with sensitive matters in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner, ensuring that the best outcome is sought for the animal and person within our resource limits.
- Assist in the liaison between Dog Wardens and Rehoming team, regarding stray dogs and availability of kennels for intake.
- Assist customers with general enquiries regarding pet care, promoting our pet shop stock items and on-site services such as Behaviour support, Grooming, Boarding and Vets
- Receive and account for all daily sales takings and producing accurate end- of-day summary for submission to the Finance Officer.
- Gratefully receive donations in, following processes to ensure monies are either passed directly to Fundraising or counted, logged and donors thanked.
- Ensure that the office/reception area is kept in a clean and tidy manner, observing best hygiene practices and always conforming to Health and Safety regulations.
- Account for all incoming pet shop stock, accurately enter onto system, price up the items and maintain shelves with good stock supplies.
- Assist with monthly stock taking.
- Report to the Operations Manager regarding any relevant issues i.e. animal welfare or staff concerns
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the General Manager/Operations Manager to ensure the smooth running of the Shelter
