Job summary
We are inviting applications for a 12-month South West Endoscopy Training Academy (SWETA) Leadership Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This unique post is designed for post-CCT or senior Gastroenterology trainees who wish to develop advanced clinical expertise alongside meaningful regional leadership experience. The fellowship combines specialty clinical training (5 sessions per week) with protected time (3 sessions per week) to contribute to regional endoscopy training and service transformation through the South West Endoscopy Network.
This is an exceptional opportunity to build leadership capability, contribute to regional strategy, and develop advanced endoscopic and subspecialty skills within a high-performing, JAG-accredited service and Regional Endoscopy Training Centre.
There is no commitment to General Internal Medicine and no on-call requirement.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will:

Deliver high-quality clinical care in Gastroenterology across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Undertake advanced specialty training aligned to individual interests (e.g. upper GI bleeding, IBD, hepatology, nutrition, advanced endoscopy).

Contribute to regional SWETA workstreams, supporting endoscopy training, faculty development and network delivery.

Support simulation training and human factors courses.

Participate in endoscopy-related research and quality improvement initiatives.

Engage in clinical audit, governance and service improvement work.

Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across hospital and community settings.

Contribute to teaching and supervision of trainees and other healthcare professionals.

Participate fully in appraisal and revalidation processes.
The role provides clinical supervision from a consultant aligned to the fellow's subspecialty interest, alongside leadership supervision from the SWETA Director.

There is a dedicated Gastroenterology / Hepatology ward at Cheltenham General and a daily consultant presence in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Both are supported by specialist nursing, rehabilitation and other ancillary services.

The appointees have a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well-being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital. This statutory duty is in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with the post.
The Medical Division is led by the Divisional Director of Operations, Divisional Director of Quality and Nursing and Chief of Service
