Teacher (Mathematics) - Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES)
Cheltenham
School: Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES) (LA)
Address: County Offices, St George’s Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Title: Teacher (Mathematics) - Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES)
Grade: Main Scale MPS or UPR
Allowances: SEN A
Hours: Full Time
Contract: Permanent
Closing Date: 09/03/2025
Interview Date: TBA
Start Date: A.S.A.P.
Job Requisition Number: 9242
About the Role
Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES) is looking for an outstanding teacher of maths to join their existing teaching team. Ideally we want this as full-time but will consider part-time at 0.8FTE for a September start.
When students are too unwell to attend their main school, and all reasonable adjustments in their school have been exhausted, a referral will be made to the Local Authority. GHES is one of the education providers that students may then be referred to, to provide education. We offer the core subjects plus PSHE, Art and some other subjects whilst they are with us. As soon as they are well enough we support their reintegration back to their main school.
Teaching is mostly online for KS3 and KS4 students, with more face to face for our Primary students. And so anyone considering this role will need to be flexible with teaching in a students’ home, in our classroom space or online, and understand that this arrangement is constantly changing as we accept referrals on a weekly basis.
We serve the county of Gloucestershire, and students can be located anywhere within that. Therefore, it is essential that candidates hold a full driving licence and have use of a car.
About you
We are looking for a teacher who:
• Is an outstanding maths teacher, confident in teaching up to grade 9 at GCSE
• Plans and delivers engaging and motivating lessons to support children who are ill, have very low self-esteem, have complex learning needs and can re-kindle a love of learning
• Is confident in making bespoke adaptations to meet additional needs including the use of alternative communication and visual teaching methods
• Has experience of supporting children with SEND such as neurodiversity, MLD, PMLD, SEMH or medical needs, either from a mainstream or a specialist background.
• Has experience of positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies and who understands the importance of supporting the emotional needs of young people, e.g. the use of Restorative Practice, Trauma Informed and Thrive.
• Takes pride in their work and thrives in a busy, constantly changing environment
• Is flexible and adaptable in the moment
• Has excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with children, parents / carers, staff at GHES, and professionals in education.
• Has a firm belief that a medical condition or an additional need should not stop a child fulfilling their full potential is essential.
About Us
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the hospital education team. You can be confident of joining a highly professional, passionate, supportive and very experienced team of teachers, pastoral and administrative team working tirelessly to ensure the best outcomes can be achieved for every individual despite the health barriers they may be facing.
We strongly recommend you contact the Head of Service for an initial phone call, prior to making an application. Email: ghes@gloucestershire.gov.uk or phone 01242 532363.
In your application please ensure in your personal statement you are able to identify your skills and experience, the impact they have made on the children you work with, and then how those skills will benefit the young people we work with at GHES.
All applications must be made through the GCC Job Vacancy website where you will find the job description and further information about the role.
Positions are subject to an enhanced DBS check, right to work in the UK, and on evidence of relevant qualifications for the role. All shortlisted candidates will have an online profile search carried out.
