Welcome to GL Communities
Welcome and thank you for your interest in the role of Chief Executive Officer and this opportunity to take GL Communities forward into the next exciting chapter of its evolution as a community organisation.
GL Communities is unique within the county of Gloucestershire being a community organisation providing a specialist advice service for both debt and welfare rights.
We are able to offer a holistic approach and support for communities across the county in setting up outreach teams within community hubs so that the local population has easily accessible advice.
GL Communities came into existence as a Company in 2008 and as a charity in 2010; it was built out of the experience of over 40 years of neighbourhood working in Gloucestershire.
GL Communities represents the coming together of three of the most successful of these neighbourhood organisations (White City Community Project, Matson Neighbourhood Project and Podsmead Neighbourhood Project).
Sue Cunningham has been at the helm from the beginning and has now been in post in a full-time role for 27 years, originally as a community co-ordinator, as Operations Manager and in the role of CEO since 2015. Sue is stepping down ready for a well-deserved retirement, hence a great opportunity for another inspiring, community focused individual to step into, what will be an interesting and challenging role.
The team at GL Communities strive every day to make communities, and the residents that live within in, lives easier, offer new opportunities for them and an array of choices around their lifestyles. We believe that this will lead to happier, more equitable lives, and neighbourhoods and communities that are more welcoming and inclusive.
The Role
We are looking for someone who is excited about working with people in their communities in a way that values and builds on their strengths and who can maximise the talents of our team, including our new operations manager. A leader who shares our values and is able to communicate them to our many stakeholders and partners across Gloucestershire to help develop Advice Services within communities across the county.
The Board of Trustees have reviewed the management structure and consider that as well as recruiting a new CEO, there is an opportunity for a part-time Operations Manager to join the senior leadership team. It is anticipated that the newly appointed CEO will be involved in this recruitment exercise.
As Chief Executive Officer you will lead and develop a talented team and be responsible for all aspects of the work of the GL Communities. This includes strategic planning and delivery of community development activity using Asset Based Community Development concepts; financial planning and fundraising; and communicate the work of the organisation at all levels. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees, providing advice and enabling thoughtful debate and good decision-making through the preparation of quality and timely information. You will continue to grow our strong collaboration within the team, between the team and the Board and with our strategic partners in Advice Services, Health, Local Government, other VCSE and civil society organisations in Gloucestershire as well as individuals and communities.
Closing date for applications: Friday 20th June 2025 Interviews: Week Commencing Monday 7 th July 2025
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000pa FTE (pro-rata for 22.5 hours per week)
Hours Per Week: part-time role (3 days (22.5 hours) a week)
