Men's Engagement Lead - Meningitis - 21 hours per week
Stroud - Hybrid
Location: Home or office based, with some required travel to Stroud, Gloucestershire.
We are looking for a Men's Engagement Lead to help shape meaningful, inclusive support and engagement opportunities for men affected by meningitis.
About the job
As a centre of expertise in meningitis aftercare and support, Meningitis Now delivers specialist, impactful services across the UK through its established Community Support Team. Building on this strong foundation, this new role will develop tailored, inclusive support for men affected by meningitis.
Shaped by men’s lived experience, this new role will create new ways for men to connect, remove barriers to support, and embed best practice in engagement with men across the charity.
The role will:
- Co-design and lead evidence-informed support with men who have lived experience of meningitis, creating meaningful opportunities for connection through peer support, events, online groups and tailored resources
- Provide compassionate one-to-one emotional and practical support, manage an active caseload and develop support plans that reflect each individual’s needs
- Help men access Meningitis Now’s wider services and trusted specialist organisations, and advocate for greater understanding of the lasting effects of meningitis in settings such as education and employment
- Build relationships with men’s groups, mental health services, professionals and community partners to raise awareness, encourage referrals and connect men with additional support
- Champion authentic representation and best practice in male engagement across the charity, using learning, feedback and impact measures to improve services and increase male participation
- Work collaboratively across the charity, maintain accurate and confidential records, and follow safeguarding and organisational procedures
The role would suit someone who brings:
- Experience of providing support in a community, health, social care, education, voluntary-sector or similar setting, particularly with people affected by illness, bereavement, trauma, grief or disability
- An understanding of how men may experience and access support, and the ability to adapt services to individual needs
- Strong listening, empathy, communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with individuals, families, professionals and partner organisations
- Good organisation, digital and record-keeping skills, with the ability to manage priorities, work independently and contribute positively to a team
- A sound understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and safe working practice, together with a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging
- Flexibility to travel and occasionally work evenings or weekends, with reasonable notice. A full driving licence is required
What we're looking for

- Confident IT and digital skills, including Microsoft Office, CRM or case management systems, social media and digital platforms used to deliver or administer support
- Strong relationship management and service delivery experience, with the ability to build trust, work diplomatically and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to self-motivate and work on own initiative with strong understanding of safe working practices
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisation, administrative and prioritising skills, with the ability to work to multiple deadlines
- Robust understanding of safeguarding practice when working with adults and children at risk
Desirable Selection Criteria
- A relevant qualification at level 3, or equivalent experience gained through paid or voluntary work
- Experience in the charity sector, community or project development
- Experience of public speaking
- Experience of CRM systems
- Experience of moderating online peer-support forums
