Sudeley Castle & Gardens are seeking Guides to join their dedicated team in providing an engaging, informative and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the castle.  Representing the family, you will work with other guides, volunteers and the wider team to share the rich history, art, architecture, and personalities associated with Sudeley Castle Estate in a friendly and accessible way.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as a guide in the public rooms of the Castle, engaging visitors with a good storytelling style to bring the history of Sudeley to life.
  • Supervise the security of the collection in the Castle’s public rooms.
  • Develop an excellent knowledge of the Castle’s collection of art, historical artefacts and personalities and be willing and able to answer questions and offer further insights into the history of the Castle to those who request it.
  • Manage visitor flow into and within the Castle public rooms.
  • Conduct guided tours of the Castle and Gardens as required, presenting key information clearly and enthusiastically.
  • Help to create a welcoming environment and enjoyable visitor experience.
  • Assist with dedicated events and educational activities as required.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the Castle’s public rooms as required.
  • Maintain a good knowledge and awareness of current exhibitions, events and new research on the history of the Castle and its historical inhabitants.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety and operational procedures and local policies.
  • Undertake any other reasonable task commensurate with the scope of the role.
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
  • In addition, all employees are expected to work within the terms of their contract of employment.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience of working in a public-facing role/public speaking.
  • Desirable but not essential, experience of working in a heritage visitor attraction or tourism setting.
  • Good knowledge of Sudeley Castle and its historical significance.
  • A passion for and general knowledge of British history, especially the Tudors.
  • Desirable but not essential, First Aid Qualification.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • A can-do attitude and readiness to support on the ground.
  • Comfortable multi-tasking.
  • A natural communicator, able to engage enthusiastically with diverse audiences from around the world with varying knowledge of history.
  • Dependable and professional.
  • Effective working as part of a team under pressure.
  • Approachable with a collaborative attitude, supportive of an inclusive and respectful team environment.
  • Able to work effectively unsupervised.
  • Resilient
  • Proactive and comfortable taking the initiative.

This is a seasonal contract of a minimum of six hours per week from 14th March to 1st November 2026 with flexibility to cover weekends and holidays, and offers an hourly rate of £13.00.  28 days paid holiday per annum pro rata, including bank holidays.
