Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Major Crime Investigation Team based in Gloucestershire as a Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst. We are seeking critical thinkers who can lead a team of analysts and researchers in an investigative capacity.
The Major Crime Investigation Team is a three force collaboration involving Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire police forces and as such you will be required to support homicide investigations across all three force areas. The role is a key part of a homicide investigation. You will be responsible for managing the Intelligence team ensuring that effective analysis and research is undertaken, understood and prioritised; driving forward the Intelligence requirements of a homicide investigation and overseeing the production of evidential products. There is a heavy emphasis on exploiting opportunities in relation to Digital and Communications data and experience in this area will be advantageous.
The successful applicant will be able to offer advice to the investigation team in relation to appropriate analytical and intelligence practices to support a homicide investigation, and develop and manage individual analysts and researchers in order to develop the Intelligence team and wider analytical profession.
The post holder will support complex analytical research projects, identify best practice and develop the effectiveness of relevant software and information systems. They must also have good experience of criminal intelligence analysis. Whilst the role predominantly focuses on operational and evidential analysis there will also be the requirement to oversee strategic analysis in the support of Force and National approaches to Homicide reduction.
Previous leadership experience and experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis is essential. A relevant degree or work based experience. Experience in the use of visual analysis software e.g. i2 Workstation and GIS is advantageous.
Please note appointments to this post are subject to a higher security clearance at SC & MV Level. To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
Your day to day work can be unpredictable, requiring great flexibility and resilience. When new investigations commence, they are fast paced and there is often a requirement to work additional hours at short notice, but these are compensated through overtime.
The role in MCIT requires working a shift pattern which is a combination of day shifts 0800-1800 and late shifts 1400-2200 shifts. You will be required to work 1 weekend in every 4 and will gain days off in the week. This attracts unsociable hours allowance in addition to the salary. This role may also require you to work within any of the three police force areas we serve.
Essential:
- Proven experience of intelligence analysis processes and/or intelligence led approaches
- Experience working in an advisory/consultancy capacity - able to demonstrate professional credibility with colleagues and stakeholders
- Excellent IT skills including extensive experience using all common Microsoft packages including Excel and specific analytical software programmes
- Proven experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis including statistical analysis
- Proven experience of structured analytical techniques, inference development and hypothesis testing
- Ability to act on own initiative, to own and manage issues with minimal supervision
- Demonstrable ability to make clear, timely and justifiable decisions based on an informed rationale.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - including verbal and written communication, presentation skills to communicate findings and appropriately influence decision makers
- Experience of managing/supervising staff (i.e. welfare, training, performance etc).
Desirable:
- Knowledge of relevant investigative legislation (e.g. IPA, CPIA, GDPR).
- Previous analytical experience and / or of working within a law enforcement environment
- Previous experience of Court and of presenting evidential analytical products
- Experience of evidential analysis products
The proposed interview date is 13/11/2024.
