About the Equine Therapy Centre
The Equine Therapy Centre offers treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions using a combination of the most up to date facilities, physical therapy and techniques in veterinary medicine. Since 1999, the Centre has helped thousands of horses achieve their full potential whatever their role in life.
The centre has extensive facilities which support the treatment of horses. These include a Sato high-speed treadmill, a water treadmill and relevant veterinary facilities. Offering a superb learning environment, the Equine Therapy Centre supports students to gain real-world experience or undertake a work placement. Additionally, the facility is engaged in a range of research and knowledge exchange activities, developing an evidence base to support professional practice.
About the Role
- You will be an enthusiastic and flexible individual with experience in Equine care.
- You will be responsible to the Equine Therapy centre Manager for the daily care and exercise of horses within the Equine Therapy Centre.
- You will support the learning, teaching, research and commercial activity within the centre.
- You will assist the veterinary surgeons, Equine Therapy Centre Manager and consultant physiotherapists in the planning of treatment and rehabilitation programmes for horses.
- You will be responsible for the admission and discharge of horses where necessary.
- You will exercise horses for the purpose of demonstrations for students, visitors and clients for research purposes.
About You
- Ideally you will hold an equine related undergraduate degree or equivalent significant industry experience, BHS Stage 3 or equivalent.
- You will have previously worked with competition horses and be able to demonstrate high standards of horse care and stable management.
- You will be competent in lunging and trotting up difficult/fresh horses.
- You will have a specific interest in equine veterinary medicine/physiotherapy although this is desirable.
- You will understand the importance of effective communication, observation and unified teamwork.
- You will be able to liaise regularly with line management and will be able to follow instruction as well as using your own initiative.
