Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and reliable individual to join our Trauma & Orthopaedics Therapy team as an Apprentice Therapy Support Worker. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in healthcare and rehabilitation who is keen to develop practical skills while working alongside experienced therapists in a busy acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will be patient-focused, approachable, and willing to learn, with good communication skills and a positive attitude towards supporting patients to regain independence. Full training, supervision, and support will be provided as part of a structured apprenticeship programme, enabling the post-holder to build confidence, experience, and a strong foundation for a future career in healthcare.
You will need to demonstrate good communication skills, a caring and professional approach, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. During the apprenticeship, you will develop practical skills in supporting patient mobility, rehabilitation exercises, basic clinical observations, and therapeutic activities, while gaining experience in patient safety, infection prevention, and person-centred care under the supervision of qualified therapy staff.
Main duties of the job
- To develop the skills to work as an integral member of the therapy team using the principles of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way.
- To learn how to, and become confident in, implementing delegated treatment plans and facilitating rehabilitation within agreed limitations to promote independence using occupation, exercise and physical modalities, taking into consideration a person's affect and cognition with guidance and supervision of a mentor.
- To learn how to, and then implement and progress delegated treatment programmes using clinical reasoning skills to include the teaching of patients on functional exercise, the issuing and fitting of equipment and the practice of activities of daily living. It will also include assessing patients in the safe use of mobility aids, such as safety on the stairs and personal care.
- To learn how to, and then assess patients with non-complex mobility and occupational difficulties. To instruct and motivate patients in accordance with the therapy plan, in order to achieve goals, set by the registered practitioner, monitoring the patient's condition at all times.
