Job summary

 

To take responsibility for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self and others and to comply at all times with the requirements of the Health and Safety Regulations and the Trust's Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

 

The post holder will work as an integral part of the Trauma and Orthopaedic team. They will be based in the Plaster room within the fracture clinic, GRH and will undertake a minimum time period within this environment.

During the initial induction period, the post holder will undertake a planned schedule where they will learn all aspects of health, safety and hygiene of the Plaster Room environment. They will be supported in answering patient queries and concerns, understand the materials required for different casts, removal of casts and application of Plaster of Paris casting.

They will also learn how to measure and issue walking devices and fitting of "off the shelf" splintage.

Prior to commencement on a fully funded Stanmore or Newport British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Casting Course, the post holder will be supplied with a workbook which will include pre-requisites such as understanding of anatomy and physiology of the skeletal, muscular, nervous and circulatory systems.

The workbook will be competency based and the post holder will work through the learning outcomes with the support of a mentor, who will be a fully qualified Orthopaedic Practitioner.
