SGS College Construction Faculty has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Green Skills Lecturer. This is a forward-thinking and dynamic role at the heart of the College vision for sustainability and low-carbon education.
You will lead and deliver engaging sessions focused on the impact and effects of global warming and high carbon emissions associated with traditional construction practices. The role involves teaching learners about climate change, sustainable construction methods, and innovative technologies designed to reduce environmental impact.
Topics include:
- Low-carbon construction methods
- Retrofit strategies for modernising existing housing stock
- Green technologies such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar thermal, and ground/air source heat pumps
- Sustainable materials and techniques
- Building performance and environmental legislation
- Learners will explore how the built environment contributes to climate change and how the construction industry is evolving to meet the demands of net zero carbon targets. You will inspire learners to see themselves as part of the solution by embedding eco-consciousness into their trade knowledge and practices.
This role would suit someone with experience in sustainable construction, green technologies, or retrofit. A teaching qualification is desirable, though support will be provided for the right candidate to achieve one.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and deliver engaging and relevant life skills sessions for construction learners.
- Support the personal, social, and professional development of students through tutorial programmes.
- Monitor and support learner progress and well-being.
- Promote a culture of inclusivity, respect, and personal responsibility.
- Work within the College Quality Management system and ensure safeguarding responsibilities are upheld.
- Use management information systems to support learner engagement, retention, and progression.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications:
- Industry experience in green construction, retrofit, renewable energy, or related fields.
- Knowledge of sustainability policy and low-carbon construction techniques.
- A teaching or assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Excellent communication skills and a learner-focused attitude.
- Passionate about the future of the construction industry and climate resilience.
