Job description

Our Care and Support Worker (assessments) is at the heart of helping prospective residential students to feel relaxed and comfortable during their assessment to join National Star.

You’ll be a key member of the Assessment team, providing one-to-one personal care and support for young people who may have never stayed away from home for periods of time before their overnight assessment with us.

Your empathetic approach, patience and calm nature will be essential in this 32 hour a week, term-time only role, as will your ability to deliver personal care during the visit and complete care planning documentation after the assessment. Completing assessment paperwork, accurately and to strict deadlines, is an important part of this role.

As well as caring for prospective students you will also appreciate the needs of parents, many of whom may feel anxious about leaving their son or daughter with us for the assessment. You will be part of the team responsible for providing feedback to parents after the visit, so it goes without saying that you will be an excellent, diplomatic and customer-focused communicator.

In between scheduled new student assessments you will be expected to support in student residences, working alongside our established care teams supporting existing students.

Completing new student assessments is key to the success at National Star and it is a genuine team effort. We will be looking to you to form strong working relationships with others involved in the process including therapists, tutors, residential managers and nurses and other members of the assessment team.

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a health and social care role is essential and ideally you will have some experience of working with young people with disabilities.  You should also hold a minimum of a Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification.  We can support you with further training and development to achieve your level 3 as you grow in your career with us.

You will be working 37 hours a week term time only.

This post will require working on a rota system including evening and weekend working, rotas will be reviewed on a termly basis. Early shifts commence at 7am and late shifts finish at either 10 or 11pm. All staff are expected to work every other weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.

Play your part in helping National Star make a positive and lasting impression on prospective students joining our specialist education college.
