JOB DESCRIPTION – EARLY YEARS DEPUTY MANAGER

Location – Circus Day Nursery, Cheltenham

Hours of work – 38 hours per week

Salary – Pending experience/qualifications

Requirements of the role:

A full and relevant Degree/Level 3 qualification as defined by the Children’s workforce Development Council.

Two professional satisfactory relevant references

Satisfactory disclosure checks

The relevant skills to support the management of the setting within the ethos, implementation and legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Duties

The Deputy Manager will go about their duties with honesty and integrity and ensure the business needs are always met and take precedence.

Support of the Manager

The D.M must work under the direction of the manager and deputise for him/her during any absence, A/L or sickness. When deputising, the D.M must accept the responsibilities of managing the setting according to all lawful and ethical standards. The manager has responsibility for the nursery, including out of hours, so if necessary the D.M must liaise accordingly to ensure full compliance of the business.

Statutory Requirements

1. To passionately support the aims and objectives of the setting and assist the manager in the organisation of a high quality environment for children from birth to 5 years and to work closely with the manager to ensure the setting complies with the Early Years Foundation Statutory Framework.

2. To provide outstanding standards of childcare and education - to include the monitoring and reviews of provision, this includes providing a safe, caring environment to enable children's emotional, social and educational development, through individual attention and group activities.

3. Assist in the leading and implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and lead by example. This job includes curriculum lead so knowledge of the Early Years curriculum is vital.

4. To direct and support staff as agreed by the manager.

Attendance

The setting must have the manager or DM present on site at all times during the opening hours. The manager and DM must cover each other’s duties should either of them be absent for any reason. Due to the seniority of this role, it is expected the DM will have a high level of attendance and an exemplary sickness record.

Attitude and disposition.

At all times the Deputy Manager must display a high level of enthusiasm, loyalty, motivation and initiative. They must ensure their appearance is neat and tidy at all times and abide by the dress code and policies. They must always be exemplary role models to other staff and lead by example and positive energy. This job role will be leading by example and working with the children to provide the best care.

Responsible To:

Early Years Manager I Officer in Charge

Main Duties

1. To promote the aims, objectives and ethos of the nursery.

2. To promote the high standards of the setting at all times to both parent's staff and visitors and to go above and beyond.

3. To assist the manager in actively promoting the setting publicising the facilities and proactively increasing sales.

4. To ensure the provision of high standards of both the physical building and emotional care in the best interests of the business.

5.To lead a professional staff team and to ensure good practice at all times.

6. To assist the Manager as and when required and to cover any absences.

7. To assist where required with the implementation of administrative procedures and to ensure policy is being carried out throughout the setting.

8. To assist with the development and implementation of systems to monitor and record child development.

9. To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment.

10. To be actively responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children and ensuring staff compliance and awareness.

11. To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.

12. To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to met the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.

13. To ensure confidentiality of information received.

14. To assist where needed with staff development and training.

15. Liaise with parents, other family members and staff to help ensure that the particular needs of children are met and that parental choice is considered in terms of care given.

16. To Liaise with outside agencies as needed and required.

17. Assist the manager when needed with the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishings and fittings.

18. Maintaining staff awareness of fire drill in accordance with the code of practice.

19. To attend and contribute fully to staff planning meetings and training sessions outside working hours, as required.

20 To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Early Years manager.

21. To deputise for the manager in his/her absence.

22. This post is not supernumerary and the deputy must be included in numbers other than when required to deputise in the Managers absences/holidays, so must have a thorough and full knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

23. The D.M must be fully computer literate to be able to produce feedback reports and any required marketing/newsletters

24. Any other jobs, which may be required in the best interest of the business.
