Severn Vale School is an Academy which provides an inclusive secondary education for students aged 11-16, that delivers strong student outcomes through high quality teaching and outstanding pastoral care. We are seeking to recruit a Family Support Practitioner to join our Safeguarding and Pastoral Team to provide support to students and their families experiencing short or long-term difficulties.

The successful applicant will help identified children to overcome environmental challenges, remove barriers to learning and increase their engagement with school. You will be required to build positive relationships with children and their families. As part of the role you will be responsible for case holding identified children and their families. You will work in partnership with young people and their families in identifying needs, required outcomes, developing care and support plans, which are then monitored and reviewed. You will be directed by the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to process and prioritise cases for children and families, from referrals made by the Safeguarding and Pastoral Teams. As part of the role you will work effectively and collaboratively in partnership with external agencies and organisations, such as Early Help, Children’s Services, Police and Health.

We are seeking to recruit applicants who have an understanding and working knowledge of Safeguarding processes the Gloucestershire Graduated Pathway and Community Support Services. You will work within the daily routines of a mainstream secondary school. The role will include working between the main school site, family homes and through attendance at meetings. The successful applicant you will have experience of working with young people from different ages, genders, cultures, as well as disabilities and sexual orientation, preferably within a secondary school or other educational setting.

You will be well supported in this role by the Assistant Headteacher responsible for Safeguarding and operationally line managed by the school’s Deputy Safeguarding Lead. In addition we offer a comprehensive staff well-being package which includes:

Whilst this is a 52-week contract, 37 hours per week, this is open to negotiation for the right candidate.
