Part Time Community Chef - £26,000-£28,000pa depending on experience. Advertised salary is based on FTE.

Wiggly Charity is looking for a compassionate and motivated Community Chef or Cook to join our team and help deliver inspiring cookery workshops and community events across Gloucestershire. Job Title: 

Location: Gloucester-based with regular travel across Gloucestershire

Contract: 9-month fixed term initially, with potential for onward renewal subject to funding
Hours: 21 hours a week across three days to be agreed

The Role:

We are looking for a compassionate and adaptable Community Chef or Cook to join our small team. Every week at Wiggly is different, and this role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, flexibility, and working closely with people and communities. You’ll plan and lead cookery workshops for small groups of individuals from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, both in our Gloucester kitchen and at partner venues across the county. You will work to adapt each session to the needs of our participants, many of whom face complex challenges, empowering them to build confidence and independence. You will also cater for community lunches or events for our clients and have the opportunity to get involved in developing and producing our Social Source range of products.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver bespoke, inclusive cookery workshops for small groups
• Plan and cater for community food activities for around 40 people
• Collaborate with local partners to develop and deliver joint projects
• Design recipes using seasonal, accessible, and budget-friendly ingredients
• Manage logistics, transport equipment, and set up mobile cookery sessions
• Work closely with vulnerable adults and children, tailoring sessions to their needs
• Maintain a safe, friendly and welcoming kitchen environment
• Support the development and production of our Social Source product line
• Evaluate session outcomes and participant feedback to help improve future workshops
• Support volunteer training and mentoring, helping others develop their skills

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven catering or professional cooking experience
• Experience of upskilling or educating others in a kitchen environment
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Strong organisational skills to manage workshop planning and logistics
• Creative and resourceful approach to using limited budgets and donated produce
• Confidence working independently and as part of a small team
• Ability to build strong relationships with partner organisations and the community
• Flexibility for adapting recipes for allergies, intolerances, or cultural preferences
• Ability to cope with short-notice changing demands and complex clients
• Alignment with Wiggly core values of inclusivity, professionalism and collaboration
• Food hygiene certification L2 minimum
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (travel expenses reimbursed)
• Ability to get Advanced DBS is essential

Desirable

• Experience delivering community food projects or cookery workshops
• Experience working with neurodiverse groups or individuals with additional needs
• Good IT skills for creating workshop materials and writing reports and emails
• Understanding of public health, nutrition, or food security issues
• Experience in food enterprise or social enterprise settings
