About the Role
Gloucestershire Hospital Education Service (GHES) is looking for an outstanding Primary teacher to join their existing teaching team, starting September 2025 or earlier. Throughout Gloucestershire, for students who are too unwell to attend their own school, GHES provides short term education, supporting their reintegration to mainstream schools when they are well enough. We teach English, maths, science and PSHE to the vast majority of our students, from reception to Year 11.
During the year our student numbers rise and fall, so the successful candidate needs to be flexible with working patterns within a school day, and the ability to deal well with students flowing in and out of groups or joining at any point during a school term. We serve the county of Gloucestershire, and students can be located anywhere within that. Therefore, it is essential that candidates hold a full driving licence and have use of a car.
About you
We are looking for a teacher who:
• Plans and delivers engaging and motivating lessons to support children who are ill, have very low self-esteem and can re-kindle a love of learning
• Can provide a creative and bespoke play-based approach that provides a learning environment to support the needs of all learners
• Is confident in making bespoke adaptations to meet additional needs including the use of alternative communication methods and visual teaching methods
• Has experience of supporting children with SEND such as neurodiversity, MLD, PMLD, SEMH or medical needs, either from a mainstream or a specialist background.
• Has experience of positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies and who understands the importance of supporting the emotional needs of young people, e.g. the use of Restorative Practice, Trauma Informed and Thrive.
• Takes pride in their work and thrives in a busy, constantly changing environment
• Is flexible and adaptable in the moment
• Demonstrate an ability to provide a learning environment to support the needs of all learners, especially our neuro-diverse children and those with SEND
• Has excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with children, parents / carers, staff at GHES, and professionals in education.
• Has a firm belief that a medical condition or an additional need should not stop a child fulfilling their full potential is essential.
About Us
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the hospital education team. You can be confident of joining a highly professional, passionate, supportive and very experienced team of teachers, pastoral and administrative team working tirelessly to ensure the best outcomes can be achieved for every individual despite the health barriers they may be facing.
We strongly recommend you visit us prior to making an application as we look very different from a mainstream school environment. For further information or to arrange to visit, please contact us: ghes@gloucestershire.gov.uk or phone 01242 532363.
In your application, please ensure in your personal statement that you are able to identify your skills and experience, the impact they have made on the children you work with, and then how those skills will benefit the young people we work with at GHES.
All applications must be made through the GCC Job Vacancy website where you will find the job description and further information about the role.
