Description
Gloucestershire Police Specialist Operations are seeking a highly motivated person to assist with coordinating and managing all matters relating to dangerous dogs/banned breeds within Gloucestershire policing area, by providing support and guidance to police officers in the management of Dangerous Dog incidents; liaising with key stake holders to ensure dangerous animals are properly managed to minimise risk to the public and the Constabulary; and through gathering evidence of offences and presenting to the relevant court in a clear manner.
Main roles and responsibilities
- To advise and/or prepare evidential files ensuring that they are completed to a high standard, and to work in partnership with the Crown Prosecution Service and other partner agencies to ensure proportionate legal sanctions are achieved at court.
- To provide a Point of Contact facility for Dangerous Dog legislation, offering guidance, investigation, file preparation and providing tactical advice on appropriate legislation and legal remedies to officers and staff in relation to Dangerous Dogs and all associated matters.
- To advise, plan and conduct detailed interviews with suspects and witnesses in relation to dangerous dog-related crime matters.
- To provide advice and guidance to force media teams.
- To manage kennel contractors including the day-to-day welfare of seized dogs.
- Recent investigative/file preparation knowledge/experience is desired.
Upon commencement of role, there will be an emphasis on investigating and submitting files related to Prohibited breed prosecutions for a period of time to support the Police response to recent amendments to the Dangerous Dogs Act.
