We are seeking an Inclusion Assistant Headteacher (IAHT) who will be the school’s ‘Inclusion Champion’ and will work with a variety of teams and colleagues to recognise and address the barriers and vulnerabilities of our children and community. Inclusion is not limited to SEND. Our Inclusion Champion will also strategically address the needs of EAL, GRT and PP children.
The lead will take responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of the school’s Inclusion policies and practices in support of the Deputy Headteacher/Headteacher and will work strategically with them and the governing body to develop provision and practice across the school and Nursery.
Strategic Direction and Development of the School:
• Be a strong advocate for change and champion school improvement;
• Convey a positive “can do” attitude, motivate and inspire staff and present a ‘united front’ to secure successful outcomes of school improvement priorities;
• Supporting the development of the vision and ethos of the school and proactively promote this vision within the school and beyond;
• Working with the Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher to contribute to a strategic view for the school in its community, analyse and plan for its future needs and further development within the local, national and international context;
• Lead by example especially when implementing change and improving standards;
• Demonstrate high standards of personal integrity, loyalty, discretion and professionalism;
• Publicly supporting all decisions of the Headteacher and Governing Body;
• Take a key role in the self-evaluation process, including devising and monitoring action plans and policies and overseeing the contributions of other members of staff to this process;
• To develop, alongside other members of the SLT, areas of the School Improvement Plan;
• Undertake monitoring activities at regular intervals (e.g. talking to pupils, undertaking work scrutiny, lesson observations and moderation) and feeding back to staff and/or the leadership team with written reviews/evaluations when required;
• Analyse and interpret National, Local and School data, together with research and inspection evidence, to inform policies, practice, expectations, targets and teaching strategies. *Specifically in relation to vulnerable groups;
• Keep School Improvement Plan objectives and actions under review and report to the Senior Leadership Team and Governing Body on the evaluation and impact of the plan;
Accountability:
• Support the Headteacher and Governors in accounting for the efficiency and effectiveness of the school to all relevant stakeholders;
• To contribute to the reporting of the school’s performance to the community and partners.
Safeguarding:
• Be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 and Working Together in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people as this applies to this role within the organisation;
• Ensure that the SLT and Inclusion Team are made aware and kept fully informed of concerns which you may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection;
• Ensure effective systems are in place and implemented to support the safety and welfare of all pupils;
• Lead by example in implementing the school’s safeguarding policy and support the interventions in place for key children as required.
