The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) department helps students to improve their English to communicate better in a range of situations. We offer courses for both 16–18-year-olds and adults, focusing on skills for personal, academic, and professional purposes. These courses help students improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities, ensuring they can engage confidently in academic settings and everyday communication. We cater to a wide range of learners, from beginners to advanced levels, and courses are offered as both daytime and evening classes.

Pastoral support is a key aspect of the ESOL provision, with dedicated staff available to offer guidance on academic progress, personal challenges, and career development. Learners also receive advice on managing their studies and adjusting to life in the UK, where relevant.

Progression opportunities are abundant, as students who successfully complete their ESOL

course can move on to further education, vocational training, or higher education. Many adult learners also gain the skills and qualifications necessary to improve their job prospects, enter the workforce, or pursue specific career paths that require strong English skills.

Our ESOL team are based at both Gloucester and Cheltenham campuses and can offer a range of working patterns depending on class timetables.
