Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - R6923

Job Description Location: Wotton-under-Edge, GL12 8JR (20 minutes North of Bristol) Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience) Hybrid working: 3 days per week onsite, 2 days from home (4.5 day working week) Renishaw is a global leader in the design and development of metrology systems. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Laser and Calibration Products Division (LCPD) at our global HQ in Wotton-under-Edge. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within Laser and Calibration, you’ll be involved in the engineering design of optical and electro-mechanical products, including laser interferometer measurement systems capable of sub-nanometre measurement accuracy. You'll be given the chance to impart your knowledge and be part of a small team of engineers, interfacing with new product and manufacturing teams on a variety of current products projects. Responsibilities Evolving and maintaining product system designs which include precision optical, electronic and mechanical technology Providing detailed verifiable design solutions, including mechanical drawings and supporting documentation Designing and developing test rigs and processes to enable the manufacture of precision measurement equipment Developing prototype testing and analysis of data to support the design Investigating product performance issues, providing solutions to a timescale Working closely with our manufacturing division to ensure best practice for manufacture and assembly Key requirements Educated to at least degree level in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical subject Previous experience in a similar mechanical design role, within a complex engineering environment Expertise with Siemens NX or a similar CAD package for 3D to 2D design Desirable requirements A demonstrable interest or background in physics, particularly towards the design of optical systems and assemblies Experience in mechanical draughting in a similar technical/engineering environment, and exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) An interest in the semiconductor fabrication industry Person specification You’ll be immersed in engineering design and practical working activities relating to the development of optical and electro-mechanical products, so you’ll thrive on seeking solutions to both proactive and reactive engineering problems that arise. You’ll be comfortable working within a multi-disciplined team, who take both a practical and theoretical approach to projects.
