North Star Academy Trust is a small multi-academy trust that was set up with the ambition to improve the SEND provision in the South West and provide as many young people as possible with a bespoke, specialist education that is tailored to each individual’s needs. We are a small but growing Trust, we currently consist of four schools including both Primary and Secondary provisions, an Alternative Learning Provision and an Outreach Team.

We have an exciting new opportunity at North Star 82°, we are looking for a dynamic and skilled SENDCo who has experience of providing specialist SEN support to ensure our pupils are offered the best opportunities to maximise their development and outcomes. The role will play a key part in developing confident, ambitious individuals who are emotionally and intellectually equipped for a brighter future. You will work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure outstanding levels of provision.

You will be the Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) for all statutory purposes, including Annual Reviews, monitoring the quality of SEN support by establishing effective systems to identify and meet the needs of students, whilst ensuring that the systems are coordinated, implemented, evaluated, and regularly reviewed and include acting as the Designated Teacher for Children in Care, attending PEPs and CiC reviews throughout the year and recording relevant data in preparation for these meetings.

We are looking for a teacher with:

• Experience of working with children who have additional social, emotional and/or mental health needs.

• A good knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements of legislation concerning safeguarding, equal opportunities, Health and Safety and SEN.

• A good knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and practical application strategies for meeting the special educational needs of students in a mixed ability, SEMH classroom.

• Knowledge of effective teaching and learning styles and how they can be used effectively for individual children.

• Ability to model outstanding practice in the classroom, including teaching, planning and feedback

• Experience of annual reviews and LAC reviews.

• Skills to support and train other staff to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH as well as other needs, e.g., ADHD, ASC.

• Excellent planning and organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

• Excellent communication and influencing skills, the ability to work as part of a team and line manage other staff.

• Skills to lead aspects of the School Improvement Plan and Self Evaluation relating to SEN.

• Resilience and the ability to work under pressure.

• A creative approach with the ability to look at improving ways of working.
