Leaders of The Rissington School are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring class teacher to join our school for a fixed-term of one academic year. This is a unique opportunity to join our thriving school, where children work hard, behave well and achieve excellent outcomes. Relationships between staff, children and parents are strong and this very much creates a supportive and nurturing school community.
September 2026 will see a new direction for the school, with all children based at our Upper Rissington site for their day-to-day learning. While pupils on roll have reduced from a 45 PAN to a 30 PAN, some classes are mixed-year group in Key Stage 2, while younger classes have become single year group.
The successful candidate will teach in Key Stage 2 alongside experienced and supportive colleagues. For year groups where there is more than one class/teacher, teachers share responsibility for planning and work together to plan and deliver our engaging curriculum. Teaching Assistants support pupils in class depending on need and deliver interventions and strategies identified by the class teacher in consultation with the SENCO.
Children at The Rissington School are motivated, proud and aspirational young people. We are looking for someone who:
- Has great ideas for engaging lessons;
- Is able to motivate all children to learn and achieve well;
- Has a clear understanding of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum and is confident to deliver this to a mixed age class;
- Shows commitment to the whole school community;
- Is keen to develop as a practitioner and learn alongside colleagues.
We can offer you the opportunity to:
- Teach and support kind, enthusiastic and ambitious pupils;
- Work with a dedicated and eager staff team, supportive parents, and invested governors, who are all proud of their school;
- Develop your professional skills and knowledge;
- Teach in a vibrant and inclusive environment;
- Work alongside a committed and supportive local cluster of fellow teachers.
We welcome applications from both ECTs and more experienced teachers. If not an ECT, a Subject Leadership responsibility will form part of the role.
The closing date for applications is 11am on Monday 11th May. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by the end of the day on Tuesday 12th May and interviews will take place either that week or early the following week.
It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. Appointments are made subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as well as employment checks including the Right to Work Check. As part of our due diligence within safer recruitment, school will be carrying out online searches to help identify any incidents or issues which may need to be explored at interview. Additionally, any gaps or anomalies that arise during the application stage of the recruitment process will be explored further at interview. Shortlisted candidates will be asked additional questions about safeguarding during the interview process. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Gloucestershire.
The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Guidance about whether a conviction or caution should be disclosed can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all children and expects our staff, volunteers and parents to share this commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
