Class Teacher - The Rissington School

Class Teacher - The Rissington School

Cheltenham

Post Title (Subject) Class Teacher (Key Stage 2)
Grade MPS/UPS
Allowances (Not applicable)
Hours Full Time
Contract Permanent
Closing Date: 08/06/2026
Interview Date: TBA
Start Date 01/09/2026

Leaders of The Rissington School are looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and inspiring class teacher to join our thriving school. At The Rissington School, we are proud of our hardworking pupils, who behave well and achieve excellent outcomes. Relationships between staff, children and parents are strong and this very much creates a supportive and nurturing school community.

September 2026 will see a new direction for the school, with all children based at our Upper Rissington site for their day-to-day learning. While pupils on roll have reduced from a 45 PAN to a 30 PAN, some classes are mixed-year group in Key Stage 2, while younger classes have become single year group.

The successful candidate will (for this next academic year at least) teach in Upper Key Stage 2 alongside experienced and supportive colleagues to a mixed Year 5/6 class. In September, we will have three Year 5/6 classes, so the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to plan and deliver our engaging curriculum. Teaching Assistants support pupils in class depending on need and deliver interventions and strategies identified by the class teacher in consultation with the SENCO.

The grade offered (Main Scale or UPS) will be dependent on experience. This post is not suitable for ECTs. We welcome applications from teachers who have experience in teaching Key Stage 2 and understand the expectations of the end of Key Stage 2 framework and assessments. The successful candidate will lead at least one subject – we particularly urge candidates to apply who have an interest or experience in developing Writing and/or Arts across the school, although this will not be a decisive factor during shortlisting.

Children at The Rissington School are motivated, proud and aspirational young people. We are looking for someone who:
- Has great ideas for engaging lessons;
- Is able to motivate all children to learn and achieve well;
- Has a clear understanding of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum and is confident to deliver this to a mixed age class;
- Shows commitment to the whole school community;
- Is keen to develop as a practitioner and learn alongside colleagues;
- Is confident and keen to lead a subject.

We can offer you the opportunity to:
- Teach and support kind, enthusiastic and ambitious pupils;
- Work with a dedicated and eager staff team, supportive parents, and invested governors, who are all proud of their school;
- Develop your professional skills and knowledge;
- Teach in a vibrant and inclusive environment;
- Work alongside a committed and supportive local cluster of fellow teachers.

The closing date for applications is Monday 8th June at 10am. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by the end of the day on Tuesday 9th June at the latest. We would love to see shortlisted candidates teach in their existing setting where possible w/c 8th June, although we are happy to provide this opportunity in our school if needed. Interviews will take place w/c 8th June or w/c 15th June.

We very much welcome visits to the school. If you have any questions about the role or contract, please also contact us.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all children and expects our staff, volunteers and parents to share this commitment.  It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. Appointments are made subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as well as employment checks including the Right to Work Check. As part of our due diligence within safer recruitment, school will be carrying out online searches to help identify any incidents or issues which may need to be explored at interview. Additionally, any gaps or anomalies that arise during the application stage of the recruitment process will be explored further at interview. Shortlisted candidates will be asked additional questions about safeguarding during the interview process. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Gloucestershire.

The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Guidance about whether a conviction or caution should be disclosed can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, and volunteers, to share the same commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
