About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher to support our school’s development, teaching a small group of students (maximum group size of 8) in our satellite base which will be newly established in September 2025.

The new provision will be based in Andoversford School, just outside of Cheltenham, and there will be an opportunity to work with staff and students from the school in a planned manner. The new class will be focused specifically on supporting primary aged students who are likely to be quickly ready to transition back to a new mainstream school. The successful applicant will, working with an HLTA, teach a broad and balanced curriculum, aligned the wider primary curriculum. You will be a key member of the wider primary team and will have plenty of opportunities to work with the Altus team through shared curriculum provision, specifically PE and Forest School. You will be supported by Altus School leaders, however, the successful candidate must be confident to work independently at times leading support staff and students. For this reason, the most is unlikely to be suitable for an ECT.

About us:

The Altus School is a local authority maintained alternative provision school, working with students from Year 1 through to Y11 who predominantly join us after a permanent exclusion from a mainstream setting. We are a supportive and nurturing school and place relationships at heart of all that we do to help our students flourish both in school and in the wider community. You can hear directly from our staff about what it is like to work at the school by looking at our website. You will be joining a challenging but ultimately hugely rewarding environment. Every day is different, you will develop strong working relationships both with students and your colleagues. Together, we make a real difference for our young people and families.

We are a growing school with 7 centres, plus our new primary satellite classroom, across Gloucestershire and as of September we will have capacity for 328 students. There are a wide range of opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues across the school to plan and share best practice. In addition, you will benefit from a generous employee assistance scheme which includes health care, online sports and fitness and wellbeing support.

We welcome visitors to the school to come and see us in action. You can contact Kate Williams on 01452 397632 or at kate.williams@altusschool.org.uk to arrange a visit.

Deadline for applications: 9am Monday 19 May with interviews on Thursday 22 May (TBC)

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, and volunteers, to share the same commitment. All applicants will be subject to social media checks and successful applicants to a fully enhanced DBS.
