Assistant Editor

As an Assistant Editor based in our Cheltenham office, you will report to the Senior Commissioning Editor, Psychology and be responsible for commissioning Elgar Original Reference works, including Handbooks and Encyclopedias (as well as other product types), across the field of Psychology.
Key responsibilities to include:
- Liaising with the Senior Commissioning Editor over possible editors to approach, and conducting research into possible new editors as directed
- Liaising with Series Editors over possible editors to approach
- Undertaking all commissioning correspondence with potential editors and liaising with commissioning editors on this where appropriate
- Drafting offer letters and contracts
- Acting as a first point of contact for queries and correspondence for contracted titles where appropriate
- Liaising closely with the commissioning team to ensure clear communication on areas of overlap in commissioning
- Generate new ideas for the Elgar Original Reference programme, and discuss these with the relevant commissioning editor
The successful candidate will:
- Have demonstratable attention to detail, and strong communication skills
- You will have examples of exemplary time management, and balancing multiple tasks at once
- You will have the flexibility to accommodate peaks in workload and manage multiple demands and deadlines effectively
- Experience in publishing would be an advantage but is not essential.
