We’re looking for a Publishing Assistant to join our Editorial and Marketing teams in Cheltenham, supporting the delivery and promotion of high-quality academic content.

We welcome applications for both a full-time position (35 hours per week) or part-time (e.g.9am–3pm, 5 days per week) and are keen to hear from candidates with transferable skills, including those looking to move into publishing.
You’ll gain hands-on experience across editorial and marketing processes, with opportunities to develop skills in publishing systems, content production and digital marketing.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong digital skills - including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign (and ideally other Adobe tools) with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software, digital workflows and platforms
- An exceptional level of accuracy and attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational, self-motivation and communication skills
Responsibilities include:
- Reformatting elements such as figures and tables to ensure they meet accessibility standards
- Writing engaging book descriptions
- Producing flyers, catalogues and marketing materials for a range of audiences
- Creating and posting social media content across multiple channels to promote publications and engage audiences

Job Description
The Publishing Assistant will support and assist Editorial and Marketing colleagues in their work. The Publishing Assistant should possess strong digital skills, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software, digital workflows and platforms as well as having aptitude in problem-solving, organization, communication and time-management.
Ideally spending 2 days a week with Marketing and 3 days a week with Editorial.
Full training in all aspects of the role will be provided. Core duties of the Publishing Assistant will include:
- Modifying and reformatting tables supplied by authors in their manuscripts to ensure they meet accessibility standards, including redrawing tables, adjusting data and applying proper formatting
- Writing book descriptions for book covers and the website
- Sourcing endorsement quotes to use on book covers and in promotional materials
- Providing other administrative/editorial support to the Editorial department surrounding the initial submission of manuscripts from authors including sending figures supplied by authors to dedicated Figures team for fix
- Digital filing using Dropbox, Google Drive and in house databases
- Preparing visual assets and posting social media content across multiple channels
- Producing flyers and marketing materials for conferences/author events
- Liaison with academic journals and other media with regard to book reviews
- Preparing book cover design brief and where applicable, sourcing and supplying the image for the designers
- Undertaking other administrative tasks as required
The Publishing Assistant reports to the Managing Editor and Deputy Managing Editor in Editorial and the Marketing Manager.
This is an office-based role in Cheltenham, with the possibility of discussing hybrid working arrangements after the first year.
